Alicante 5 - Playa del Postiguet

Felt lazy, so didn't get out of the apartment until noon. First to the bus station to buy a ticket to Dénia for the next day. Then to the top floor of the El Corte Inglés department store where there is a upmarket self-service restaurant. I had a gazpacho, a serving of paella, and a chocolate cake for dessert. It was a delicious splurge. But maybe I shouldn't have had the beer, it made me go back for a long nap.

Incidentally Alicante is prosperous enough to have not one but two ECI stores within a few hundred metres of each other. The gourmet restaurant in the other store features international cuisine like Japanese.

Decided to actually walk on the sand at Playa del Postiguet but in the late afternoon when it would be cooler and less crowded. On the way spotted this pair of living statues on their way to work.

Unfortunately I can't identify this sculpture of a human head with a bomb on top.

The Carrusel Puerto de Alicante.

The theme of the Volvo Ocean Race seems to be "turn back the tide of plastic".

The official sign.

Sea of white beach chairs.

The skybridge of the day before and the apartment blocks facing the beach.

Hmm, I suppose it was easier to excavate the sand around the figures, but they are a little disturbing. At least it's a pair.

Beach volleyball.

Beach bar.

Looking back at the Melia Hotel.

Shoreline pool with sign explaining that the marine vegetation there is an indicator of the quality of the water.

Satirical anti-littering mural, this one targeting litterbug smokers. "Proud to use the sand as his personal ashtray" reads the caption.

View from skybridge.

The shore freeway. One lane goes to the northern beachers, the other goes to the highway to Valencia.

In the old city is this street named after Lucentum, the Roman city that is now Alicante. The description reads: Lucentum, the name given by the Romans to the ancient city of Alicante, whose ruins can be found in El Tossal de Manises.

Back in the new city, Borgonese is a restaurant and a gelato bar. I seem to remember I had a turrón gelato.

The building is attractive too.

And that was the end of a slow day. I returned to prepare for the bus journey to Dénia the next day.
